TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Mandate Party (PAN) deputy chairperson, Viva Yoga Mauladi, on Friday strongly denied that Amien Rais had been expelled from the party Amien had founded.
Mauladi claimed there were no policies that had terminated Amien’s membership in the party.
“Up until this day, Pak Amien is still PAN’s and I doubt that Amien Rais will establish his own political party,” said Viva Yoga in a written statement on Friday, July 24.
Mauladi’s statement came immediately after Amien Rais attended an online discussion forum as a speaker where he claimed to have been expelled from his own political party.
Amien Rais suspected his stand against the party’s choice upon joining forces with the government was the main reason behind it.
“I am no longer in PAN. I have been expelled by my people as I refuse to agree [with the party's decision] in joining forces with the regime that [cannot be understood anymore],” said Amien Rais.
