TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 2020 season of the Indonesian Basketball League or IBL is set to resume on October 13-27, without the presence of spectators at the Mahaka Square Arena Kelapa Gading in North Jakarta.
“We postponed the competition after considering a number of aspects, which include giving extra time for clubs to face the upcoming playoff,” said IBL president Junas Miradiarsyah in a written statement on Thursday, July 23.
The announcement had already been informed to IBL clubs and players. Junas said that the league took time to consider a number of aspects such as available facilities, operational anticipations in conducting the health protocol, and responses from local governments.
He said that the new IBL schedule is supported by the North Jakarta Mayor's office, the national disaster mitigation agency (BNPB), health ministry, and the youth and sports ministry.
“We agreed on this schedule after the BNPB issued a recommendation guideline,” said the IBL president. “Discipline is the key to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
