TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Jakarta Health Agency Widiastuti confirmed that several offices in the city had been identified as COVID-19 clusters.
"However, the transmission does not merely occur in the workplace, but possibly in residential areas or outside the building," she said at the Jakarta City Hall on Thursday, July 23.
Widiastuti reported offices of the central government, ranging from ministries and institutions, State-Owned Enterprises, Jakarta administration, up to private offices reported virus infections.
She argued that the implementation of health protocols at workplaces is quite good so far, yet transmission still possibly occurs when employees go outside or stay inside the building. During the lunch break, for example, they have the potential to be infected. “They take off their masks when eating and face others. It is risky.”
After identifying the clusters, the city government will take several measures and monitor the location, as well as track possible transmission in an effort to prevent further spread. Besides, the offices will be shut down temporarily.
“We suggest routine disinfection at offices, especially at areas that are often touched, such as door handles and toilets,” she added.
Several workplaces in Jakarta are temporarily closed as they have the potential to become new COVID-19 clusters, including LPP RRI Building at Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, and PLN Central Office.
