TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hasto Kristiyanto, the Secretary-General of PDIP, said his party opined that the political regeneration starts from the family. He made the statement in response to questions related to blood relations of the party’s several candidates for the 2020 elections and state officials, including Gibran Jokowi.
“We know of the political dynasty, and the PDIP does not turn a blind eye that the regeneration process starts from the family,” said Hasto in a virtual press conference on Wednesday, July 22, 2020.
According to him, it is a general thought, not only in Indonesia but also in the world, that education begins at home, including political education.
Thus, Hasto added that PDIP provided rooms both for party cadres or people outside the party to be supported in the 2020 regional head election. He did not deny a leadership process from outside the party.
“What’s important is opening the opportunity,” he remarked. “All matters are developed through a school of regional head candidates.”
Hasto mentioned an example of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who was promoted as a candidate for Solo Mayoral Election from PDIP. As an Indonesian citizen, he argued, Gibran has a constitutional right to nominate himself and be promoted.
Other than Gibran, PDIP has a number of candidates affiliated with state or regional officials, among others are Kediri regent candidate Hanindhito Himawan Pramana, the son of Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung and Mojokerto deputy regent candidate Titik Masudah, the sister of Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah.
