TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The concept of working remotely from home, which is commonly known as work from home (WFH), may not be a suitable solution for everyone especially if said people are living at home with other family members that need to be attended to such as babies or elderly people.
People who don’t fit the work concept may find themselves easily stressed due to the stark difference in the work environment they might be used to prior to the pandemic. Fatigue is an early symptom of stress, which could lead to certain mental health issues.
Brendan Street, the Professional Head of Emotional Wellbeing at Nuffield Health, explained the six ways you could practice to further endure working from home (WFH) amidst pressing times such as the COVID-19 pandemic which was featured in Metro.co.uk.
- Speak to your boss
According to Brendan, “If you feel like there are individual factors like unrealistic deadlines, unmanageable workload or the company culture is not providing enough support through this difficult time.”
He also encourages you to make a list of these issues and schedule a call with your manager to address these concerns to your manager via virtual call.
- Know your rights
Brendan acknowledges that not everyone has a boss who is easy to talk to which is understandable. If that is the case he suggests learning about your company’s regulations. “If you think these aren’t being met, it might be time to speak to a member of HR.”
- Trust your team
“Trust your colleagues and co-workers to do the jobs they are trained to do,” according to Brendan, who also strongly suggests you not to micromanage people.
- Take time to stretch and relax
It is important to avoid overworking and use time efficiently to “Turn off worries” as he also added that life can’t be all about work.
- Put a limit to your work time
Brendan strongly suggests you use the time you would normally spend on commuting for your own well-being and enjoyment. He also notes that it is crucial for you not to squeeze more time for additional work.
- Use any of the workplace support that is available
Speak to your boss to find out what resources are available to you, and don’t be afraid to actually use them says, Brendan. This is a difficult, uncertain time for everyone, so maintaining positive, regular communication with your colleagues and boss will really help throughout the work from home (WFH) period.
