TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Health Ministry announced Friday it had distributed incentives up to Rp606 billion for roughly 195,000 healthcare workers nationwide. This comes as the realization of what the government has long promised for Indonesian healthcare workers battling the COVID-19 crisis.

“Incentives that have been paid amount to Rp606,372,333,784 for 195,055 medical and healthcare workers,” said Abdul Kadir, the head of the Health Ministry’s human resources development and empowerment (PPSDM), on July 17.

This incentive distribution is a sudden increase compared to the Rp284.5 billion of the first-phase payment on July 8 that was distributed for 94,057 healthcare workers. The funding comes from the healthcare workers’ incentive budget of Rp1.9 trillion.

The Health Ministry has also earmarked and distributed Rp12.9 billion worth of compensation funds for 43 frontline healthcare workers who perished in the fight against COVID-19. This second phase of incentive distribution came after Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto ratified a law that simplified the distribution process.
