TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has officially decided to cancel the reopening of movie theaters, which were scheduled to happen gradually starting on July 29, 2020. Anies asserted that it will be postponed until the COVID-19 curve can be flattened.
"The reopening of movie theaters and other indoor destinations that was initially planned to reopen at the end of this month must be postponed until conditions show improving trends," said Anies Baswedan in a virtual press conference, on Thursday, July 16, 2020.
According to him, the COVID-19 positivity rate in Jakarta for the past week has increased to 5.9 percent even though the city's positivity rate during the early transitional large-scale social restriction (PSBB) was recorded at 4.4 percent and even reached 3.1 percent.
The virus' reproduction number had also increased to 1.15 as of July 12, 2020, after it previously managed to be suppressed to a level below one.
