TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has again reminded his cabinet that the world is experiencing a crisis, particularly in the health and economic sector. Thus, he appealed to his ministers to have the same sense of crisis and work even harder.
“Work harder and quicker. That’s what I want in this current condition. Making a ministerial regulation that usually takes two weeks can be done in a day. Making a government regulation that normally takes a month can be completed in two days. That’s what I want,” said the President in a written statement received by Tempo on Wednesday, July 8.
The state head conveyed his statement before his ministers during a limited meeting at Jakarta State Palace on Tuesday, July 7. He also urged his cabinet to work by adopting extraordinary strategies.
“We need to switch from an ordinary channel to an extraordinary channel, from previously using complicated methods to fast and simple methods,” he remarked.
He further expected the cabinet ministers to find a way in changing the SOP (standard operating procedures) into a smart shortcut one. “How? You all know it better than me to complete this. Again, do not use mediocre ways,” the President underlined.
Jokowi had many times asked his staffers to take extraordinary action to overcome the crisis in Indonesia in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, he issued a similar warning in a plenary cabinet meeting in mid-June.
