TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following President Jokowi’s angry speech aimed at his state-ministers, Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto has slashed the bureaucracy upon the nation’s COVID-19 fund disbursements.
Jokowi’s fury was made public during a plenary meeting on June 18. The president also mentioned that only 1.53 percent of the health ministry’s Rp75 trillion funds had been spent.
“There is one thing that was late,” said an official from the Health Ministry, Trisa Wahjuni Putri, in Wednesday’s press conference.
Minister Terawan also issued the Health Ministry Decree No. HK.01.07/Menkes/278/2020 on incentives for healthcare workers directly handling COVID-19 cases.
Prior to this, there were layers of verification processes until it reached the Central Government before healthcare workers’ incentives could be dispersed, but have now been changed to regional level verification processes to slash the time needed to disperse the funds.
As of now, the Healthcare budget has been increased to Rp87.55 trillion but only has been used or absorbed by 5.12 percent.
