TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Manpower predicted that as many as 27 to 46 million new job types developed from old sectors will appear up until the year 2030. These new jobs will appear in currently vital industries, which are health, construction, retail, and manufacturing.

"Meanwhile, 10 million completely new job types or has not existed before will also appear until 2030. The numbers are 8 to 9 percent of the labor needs," said Director General of Development for Industrial Relationship and Manpower Social Security of the Ministry of Manpower Haiyani Rumondang in a virtual discussion on Saturday, July 4, 2020.

In addition to new jobs, there are also jobs that are predicted to disappear or changing after the coronavirus pandemic ends. However, Haiyani did not provide further details concerning the jobs.

She explained that as many as 23 million jobs will be affected by automation or replaced by machines. Meanwhile, other jobs will experience transformation, causing 6 to 29 million workers to take additional training.

This major transformation, according to Haiyani, is in line with the ongoing development of industry 4.0. Haiyani said that there are several factors that drive workers to absorb changes. Some of the factors including sustainable investment, new training models, new programs that help worker transition, and income.

Chairman of the Employers' Association of Indonesia (Apindo) Hariyadi Sukamdani asserted that the current manpower regulation is too protective and rigid causing nonoptimal workers absorption.

"The government tends to only protect, not paying attention to supply and demand," Haryadi said.

Therefore, Hariyadi suggested that there should be a restructuring of the prevailing laws on manpower. In the regulations, Hariyadi said that the government should include calculation of industry needs of manpower and flexible human resource management.
