YLKI 'Slams' Perpetrators in Starbucks CCTV Controversy

3 July 2020 19:48 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI), Tulus Abadi, said that the sexual violation the Starbucks CCTV operators had done against one of the store’s customers is outright violating consumers’ rights.

“This violates the consumer’s right to feel safe and secure that is guaranteed by Consumer’s Protection Law Article 4,” said Tulus Abadi in a text message to Tempo on Friday, July 3.

Article 4 of Law No.8/1999 on consumer protection oversees and protects consumers’ rights such as the right to feel safe and secure to consume a product or service. Tulus deems any violations committed by the perpetrators are sanctionable by the law.

Senior General Manager PR & Communication PT Sari Coffee Indonesia, Andrea Siahaan, said that the Starbucks Indonesia employees in question have been fired from the Starbucks branch that is believed to be at Sunter Mal in North Jakarta.

“We can guarantee that the individual in question is no longer working for PT Sari Coffee Indonesia,” said Andrea in an email to Tempo on Thursday, July 2.

Starbucks Indonesia assured that there will be no similar cases in the future.
