Indonesia Sees 1,624 New Covid-19 Cases, Biggest Daily Jump

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The national spokesman for the Covid-19 mitigation, Achmad Yurianto, reported 1,624 new positive cases today, July 2, the biggest hike since the pandemic began.
“This brings the total number to 59,394 cases,” said Yurianto in a press conference broadcasted live via the BNPB’s Youtube channel on Thursday.
As many as 1,072 patients have been declared cured, adding to the total 26,667 cases. The death toll also increased by 53, taking the cumulative COVID-19 fatalities to 2,987.
Meanwhile, the number of people under monitoring or ODP hit 40,778, and the number of patients under monitoring reached 13,359 as of today.
Yurianto called on all elements to adapt to a new normal era by practicing a clean and healthy lifestyle, such as washing hands frequently, wearing face masks, avoid being in crowds and maintaining physical distancing order.
“These are vital measures because no vaccine [for the novel coronavirus infection] is found yet to date,” Yurianto underlined.
