TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourists planning to visit Indonesia’s 10 national priority tourist sites are required to install the PeduliLindungi mobile app, which is the Indonesian government’s app developed to track COVID-19 cases through ‘contact tracing.’
The 10 ‘top priority’ tourism sites include Lake Toba in North Sumatera, Jakarta’s Kepulauan Seribu, the Borobudur Temple in Central Java, Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java, NTT’s Mandalika, Labuan Bajo in NTT, Morotai Island in North Maluku, and the Wakatobi National Park in Southeast Sulawesi.
According to Bambang Surya Putra, from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), tourists are required to install the app as it eases the government to monitor and identify cases.
“Domestic and international tourists must download and install the PeduliLindungi app,” said Bambang in Tuesday’s online press conference.
This strategy involving the contact tracing app, according to Bambang, involves the Health Ministry and the COVID-19 task force.
The PeduliLindungi app is a joint government effort between the BNPB, the Communication and Informatics Ministry, the SOEs Ministry, the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN), and Telkom, which has been installed by over 4 million users or 5 percent of Indonesia’s entire population.
