TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - University of Indonesia Epidemiologist, Tri Yunis Miko Wahyono, suggested the Jakarta administration tighten the restrictions during the transitional PSBB (large-scale social restriction) phase if the government intends to extend it.
“Because the amount of daily cases is still considerably high. Truthfully, it was initially unsafe to lift the large-scale social restriction and introduce the transition,” said Tri to Tempo on Wednesday.
According to Tri, the positive rate of COVID-19 cases in the city remained around 5 percent while the COVID-19 effective reproduction number (Rt) is still at around 0.96-1.2. The average number even shows several Jakarta areas to score above one.
“The solution to making decisions when the pandemic has yet been controlled is to tighten and enact additional regulations,” said the epidemiologist. “It must be stricter if [the transitional PSBB] is to be extended.”
The additional rules Wahyono suggests include requiring people to wear face shields to conduct outdoor activities and require restaurants and markets to apply large plastic shields as dividers between people which is effective in preventing infections through droplets.
