TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Secretary-general of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto, defended President Jokowi's recent speech about the Cabinet, saying that he hopes Jokowi’s Cabinet members would quickly improve their performance, along with other state-institution leaders, in finding the most comprehensive and effective ways to drive the national economy back to its feet.
“We are waiting for the actions taken by state ministers through a number of programs with real effects and that affects a broad portion of society,” said Hasto in a written statement on Monday, June 29.
He further defended the president’s anger that was shown during the Cabinet plenary and agrees that better inter-governmental partnership is needed to create policies amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There are several people who tend to play it safe and lack the initiative to take action. So it’s understandable that the president went as far as to evaluate the performances of his state-ministers,” said the PDIP politician.
Hasto then said that a cabinet reshuffle remains to be President Jokowi’s prerogative as an instrument to evaluate his state ministers.
