TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Speaker Prasetio Edi demanded the city administration to evaluate the city’s ‘car free day’ or CFD event which was reintroduced last Sunday amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. According to Prasetio, he witnessed many health protocol violations in the last CFD that was held.
“I truly think the last CFD needs to be reviewed because the main problem is that Jakartans refuse to have self-discipline in the last CFD,” said the DPRD Speaker on Tuesday, June 23.
Prasetio felt the need to restrict people’s mobility as he fears the CFD could potentially be a new COVID-19 cluster and suggests event organizers temporarily cancel the upcoming event.
“As a partner for the regional administration, I ask for the event to be reviewed. Don’t introduce it again if it is not feasible,” said the DPRD Speaker.
Responding to Edi’s request, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said on Tuesday that he will evaluate the event and change how it is implemented if necessary.
The governor claims he is currently gathering the complete data on the CFD that was held under a transitional PSBB protocol. The transitional period is meant to prepare people to enter the new normal phase prior to the full-on COVID-19 quarantine protocol.
“We will decide whether the approach would be repeated as it was done yesterday or whether we need to change it,” said Anies Baswedan.
