TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Firli Bahuri responded to the allegations aimed at him after he briefly opened his face mask as he met with children at Ogan Komering Ulu, South Sumatera.
He said that he had opened his mask to sing the Indonesian national anthem together with the children.
“There was a moment where I opened my face mask and held it in my hand for some time. That was because I was about to sing the national anthem Indonesia Raya with the children around me,” said Firli in a written statement on Monday.
“I need to assert that I love children. I always remember my childhood back in my hometown while my family were living in poverty,” said the KPK chairman.
The Indonesia Anticorruption Society recently accused him of failing to implement the proper health protocol while he visited his hometown on Saturday, June 20. Firli’s arrival there was initially pay pilgrimage to his parents cemetery.
