TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Finance, Suahasil Nazara, on Monday said that the COVID-19 pandemic - which has its implication on social lives in general - has created a new pattern in how state-ministries and government agencies conduct their work. One of the changes is in the plethora of virtual meetings effectively cutting costs.
“This means the government had saved all the budget that would have been used for government visits out of town or overseas,” said Suahasil in the Public Expenditure Review World Bank acceptance speech on Monday, June 22.
Despite considering such spendings as normal, even prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, he promises that the Finance Ministry and the government, in general, will try its hardest to be efficient in its spending.
“You can imagine how much spending can be saved. We would like to ensure that the new culture can be maintained after this,” said the Deputy Minister who asserts that the government is focusing on ensuring that the entire budget can be used for Indonesia’s economic recovery post-pandemic.
