TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Administration has asked office buildings in Sudirman-M.H. Thamrin area to install handwashing stations in front of each of the buildings to facilitate people to wash their hands as the 'car-free day' (CFD) program is restarted on Sunday, June 21.
“We’ve asked buildings management (at Sudirman-Thamrin) to set handwashing sinks in front of their buildings,” said Jakarta transportation agency head Syafrin Liputo at the City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Friday, June 19.
The city government, he said, has only provided handwashing stations at around Hotel Indonesia roundabout.
Syafrin also called on the people intending to visit the car-free day area to always bring along hand sanitizers, wear a face mask, and prepare another one for a substitute.
The government will divide two lanes for CFD; right lane for cyclists and left one for pedestrians. “Pedestrians or runners may also use the roadsides.”
Meanwhile, street vendors and sellers who usually packed the area with the others before the pandemic are barred to be on the road this time. The re-establishment of this program would be exclusively for those who intend to exercise.
It is important for people to take care of their health during CFD. Those who are sick are also banned to join the car-free day activities.
