Car Free Day Reintroduced Exclusively for People Exercising

18 June 2020 14:05 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe capital city’s Car Free Day (CFD) will be introduced again this Sunday of June 21. However, the head of Jakarta’s transportation agency, Syafrin Liputo, said the upcoming CFD will be exclusively for those who intend to exercise.

“In the meantime, CFD will only be exclusively for people exercising under the health protocol principle,” said Syafrin Liputo on Thursday, June 18.

The CFD prior to the COVID-19 pandemic would often see street vendors and other traders pack together in a location with city residents who exercise there, which will be temporarily banned for the upcoming car-free day.

City administrators reminded people to always wear their masks, maintain distances, and encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizers. “We remind people who are not feeling well to remain at home and not attend the CFD,” said Liputo.

Asked whether there would be security personnel on standby to screen people’s body temperature, Syafrin Liputo did not provide an answer. Upcoming Sunday’s Car Free Day (CFD) will be the first time it opened again after four months.
