TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Epidemiologist and infectious disease expert Dewi Nur Aisyah on Monday’s online talk show with the COVID-19 task force said that the recovery rate of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia is on the rise.
“As of now, the COVID-19 recovery rate has increased day-by-day. It is true that the numbers increased at the beginning compared to the total cases, but that is mainly because the specimens that were tested were limited,” said Aisyah in the show streamed from Youtube today.
She continued to elaborate that some of the cases with fatality rates had pre-existing medical conditions such as liver problems and low immune systems that can be caused by HIV and lupus.
The epidemiologist explained that data on COVID-19 is dynamic and differs from other types of illnesses such as hypertension and diabetes. The task force’s COVID-19 expert also said that a number of illnesses only infect a person for a short period of time, such as influenza and the coronavirus itself.
According to her, compared to other illnesses such as tuberculosis, patients of the aforementioned diseases would need more time to recover compared to suffering from coronavirus. Aisyah said COVID-19 somewhat resembles the flu that can be healed relatively fast within 14-days.
