TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan stated that he will soon close temporarily traditional markets that are exposed to the new coronavirus after 51 traders reportedly got infected with Covid-19.
“If there are positive cases, the market will be closed. The management (duration of the closure) depends on the cases,” said Anies in Emporium Pluit Mall, North Jakarta, Thursday, June 11.
However, Anies stopped short of detailing the duration of the closure, asking people to look after each other and comply with the health protocols when visiting markets.
“This requires awareness, so we must remind each other. This is not about enforcing rules, but health issues,” Anies Baswedan said.
Previously, the Indonesian Market Traders Association (Ikappi) spokesman Reynaldi Sarijowan recorded a total of 51 traders in six traditional markets tested positive for Covid-19. He demanded the government implement stricter health protocols and oversee its enforcement in markets.
The six markets exposed to the coronavirus are as follow:
- Klender Perumnas Market (20 traders)
- Mester Market, Jatinegara (1 trader)
- Pasar Serdang, Kemayoran (9 traders)
- Pasar Kedip, Kebayoran Lama (2 traders)
- Rawa Kerbau Market, Cempaka Putih (14 traders)
- Kramat Jati Main Market (5 traders).
