PT KAI: Face Shields Required in Long-distance Rail Services

11 June 2020 07:52 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) announced that it will start to serve regular rail services starting on June 12, 2020. However, they announced that passengers will be subjected to strict health protocols, especially long-distance trains.

“We will operate the regular train as KAI’s commitment to serving the public in out of town travels by train,” said PT KAI president-director Didiek Hartantyo.

The president-director said on Wednesday that passengers aged 50 and over will have their seats rearranged so that they would not sit beside any other passengers. As for long-distance trains services, passengers are required to wear face shields provided by PT KAI throughout the trip until they exit any station.

In its first phase, PT KAI will only sell 70 percent of the total seating capacity to help passengers maintain safe distances among each other. Didiek asserts that the company would only reopen its services for the public if conducted under strict COVID-19 health protocols.

Apart from the aforementioned requirements, passengers planning to board PT KAI trains must bring with them an official letter of approval showing that they have been tested for COVID-19 and are cleared.
