Train Passengers Required to Wear Face Shield: Govt

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Transportation Ministry announced today, June 9, that the inter-city trains are now allowed to accommodate 70 percent passengers of its total seat capacity, removing the policy on the 50 percent limit capacity.

“Of course, it will be under our stricter health protocols. If that turns out to be conducive, we will later increase the capacity limit to 80 percent,” said the Director-General of Railway, Zulfikri, on Tuesday, June 9.

In line with the hike in the capacity, Zulfikri obliged passengers to wear face shields during their trips, given the face-to-face seatings. Thus, Zulfikri demanded train operator PT KAI provide protective equipment for passengers.

Additionally, the train operator was asked to provide face masks in every station to anticipate passengers who did not wear one and check the passengers’ body temperature every three hours so that those presenting the Covid-19 symptoms could be immediately handled and isolated in a designated car.

Passengers are also required to wear jackets or long-sleeve tops in order to minimize the potential spread of the coronavirus infection through droplets.

“They must also pass the PCR or rapid tests and or present a letter noting that they have no Covid-19 symptoms for areas lacking PCR or rapid test facilities,” Zulfikri concluded.
