Garuda Indonesia Eyeing to Introduce 70 Percent Cabin Capacity

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned carrier Garuda Indonesia will reportedly increase its maximum passenger capacity for commercial flights to 70 percent, compared to its previous 50 percent that still complies with physical distancing measures.
“After it was calculated, the capacity of an airplane that complies with physical distancing measures can reach 70 percent capacity,” said Garuda Indonesia president-director Irfan Setiaputra in an interview with Tempo on Monday.
He also assures that the carrier will only offer row seats and window seats and making the seats between the two remain unavailable to maintain distance between passengers. Irfan jokingly said that economy-class passengers may experience flights that mimic those of the business class.
According to the Garuda Indonesia president, the latest regulation regarding passenger capacity will still be discussed by the Transportation Minister. He then explained that the company will not prevent passengers from traveling in pairs to sit far from each other.
