TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday opened the cabinet meeting by reminding its State Ministers to conduct transparent changes to the 2020 State Budget (APBN).
The president also specifically reminded the Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs, Finance Minister, and the Bappenas Chairperson to be more accurate and detailed in facing future fiscal risks.
“I want to truly remind that the changes in the APBN posture must be done carefully, transparently, and accountable so that the 2020 State Budget can be maintained and remain credible,” said Jokowi in opening the virtual cabinet meeting.
He asserts that transparency and accountability are crucial amidst the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, along with strategic steps to recover the country’s economy. He said that changes can implicate in the increased APBN deficit.
Jokowi also called for state institutions to “share the pain” in bearing the risk at hand so that businesses and corporations can be able to survive the economic implications of the pandemic. “We must be able to maintain the economic cycle,” said Jokowi.
