Police Mobilized to Traditional Markets Ahead of New Normal

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Metro Jaya Police Chief Insp. Gen. Nana Sudjana announced he would bump up the number of personnel stationed at traditional markets spread across the capital city of Jakarta.
This is mainly due to the number of violations often recorded in these types of markets and in preparation of the "new normal" phase.
“These traditional markets will be our target. We actually have done that, but we will strengthen it in the future by stationing more policemen there,” said Nana Sudjana on Friday.
The most frequent COVID-19 social restriction violations found in these locations include not wearing masks and not heeding the physical distancing rules.
“The ‘people’s markets’ currently have two versions: the traditional ones and the modern ones. Most of the violations regarding the use of masks and maintaining physical distance happen in traditional markets,” he said.
The police are planning to mobilize 3,972 personnel with additional help from members of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and Public Order Agency (Satpol PP). The police will guard traditional markets and other areas prone to crowds, such as MRT stations, train stations and shopping malls ahead of the planned "new normal" phase.
