TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the Jakarta Transportation Service, Syafrin Liputo, revealed that the government is currently anticipating around 1.8 million homecomers that will potentially return back to the capital.
According to data from the Jakarta Transportation Service, a total of 750,000 individuals have managed to go homecoming, or mudik, during the pandemic. In addition, according to state-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga, as many as 465,500 private vehicles have left the capital during this year's Eid homecoming period.
“If we assume that the occupancy is two people per vehicle, then the total is 900 thousand people. When added with public transportation that managed to leave the Greater Jakarta area, we are looking to anticipate 1.7 to 1.8 million people (returning),” said Syafrin in an online discussion, broadcasted on the National Disaster Mitigation Agency’s (BNPB) social media platform, on Thursday, May 28, 2020.
In anticipation of Jakarta residents attempting to go homecoming this year, the Jakarta Provincial Government had previously issued Gubernatorial Regulation number 47 of 2020, concerning Restrictions on Traveling Out of and/ or Entering Jakarta, geared to curb the COVID-19 outbreak.
As such, every individual entering or exiting Jakarta is now required to presentan exit and entry permit, also known as the SIKM. The permit can be obtained through the Jakarta Provincial Government’s official page, corona.jakarta.go.id.
“If (anyone) goes homecoming, then it is not necessarily easy to return to the Greater Jakarta area, as Gubernatorial Regulation no. 47 now requires citizens to present the SIKM ” Syafrin said.
On top of that, to regulate public movement in and out of the Greater Jakarta area, the Jakarta Transportation Service, with aid from the National Military and Police (TNI-Polri), has installed road blockages. At these road blockages, officers will inspect the SIKM of each passing vehicle.
“The TNI-Polri have begun by (inspecting) departure from East Java, West Java, by installing road blockages along the road,” Syafrin added.
