New Academic Year; Jakarta Yet to Decide Plan on Back to Schools

28 May 2020 13:23 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Education Agency has announced the 2020/2021 academic year will begin on July 13, 2020. However, no decision has been made whether students will go back to schools as it depends on later development of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The first day of school means a new school year. The learning process can possibly be carried out from home like now,” said Jakarta Education Agency head Nahdiana to Tempo on Thursday, May 28.

Nahdiana explained that her agency was still observing the situation and has not decided when students can start studying at schools. The schools, she added, will be reopened under health protocols once Jakarta is safe.

While waiting for the pandemic to subside, the agency was preparing complementing protocols and health facilities. “The progress of opening schools with that notes [health protocols] is still afoot,” she concluded.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan had decided to close all schools in the capital city since March 16, 2020, in an effort to prevent the transmission of Covid-19. As a result, the learning process is held online.
