No Talking on Trains; KCI Preparing New Normal Health Protocols

27 May 2020 13:07 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spokesperson for PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI),  Sylviane Purba, has stated that the commuter line operator is set to introduce a number of new policies geared to follow post-pandemic new normal health protocols.

One of the new policies advises commuter line passengers to refrain from talking on the train, either directly or via cell phone, as speaking has the potential to transmit the virus through droplets.

"We are still examining other policies," Sylviane said through a short message, on Wednesday, May 27, 2020.

In addition, Sylviane continued, existing health protocols, such as the checking of passenger temperature, requiring passengers to wear masks, as well as markings of social distancing on trains and stations, will continue to be applied during the new normal.

PT KCI has also installed more washbasins at 80 stations across the Greater Jakarta area. "We are also limiting the entry (of passengers) on platforms and the commuter line," Sylviane said.

PT KCI will also equip train operators and officers with face protective equipment. “"Our frontliners will use face shields," Sylviane said.

The use of face shields for all officers in direct contact with passengers will be prepared in stages, starting in the next few days. "This will be done gradually, maybe by the end of this month, it can be implemented across all stations," she added.
