TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Secretary-General of the House of Representatives (DPR) Indra Iskandar, said that leaders of the DPR will not organize open house events during the Covid-19 pandemic. Indra said that the decision was made in compliance with the Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB) policy.
"Leaders of the DPR will not organize an open house for this year's Eid Al-Fitr," Indra explained in a written statement delivered to members and secretary generals of the DPR on Saturday, May 23, 2020.
Indra said that the notification was delivered in accordance with the instruction of the DPR Speaker. He hoped that the information can be followed.
Usually, leaders of the DPR organized an open house event at their official residence in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. House members, institution leaders, and guests would normally come to visit.
Similarly, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo did not organize an open house event at the State Palace or the Bogor Palace. The President's spokesman on social affairs Angkie Yudistia said that the decision was made as part of the government's commitment to implement physical distancing.
Angkie explained that open house will create possibilities for a gathering of masses and close proximity interactions, which will increase the possibility of Covid-19 transmission.
