TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta : Police in East Java will ban all trucks and large vehicles from Jalan Raya Porong in Sidoarjo shortly before Idul Fitri to avert traffic during the holiday.
The mud-drenched highway connecting Surabaya and Malang “will be closed for large vehicles except those carrying basic supplies,” head of traffic division Police Aide Commisioner Andi Yudianto said.
The police said its preparing alternative routes through Mojosari-Krian, Ngaban-Kali tengah-Glagah, and Arum-Sentul-Gempol Sari for holidaymakers. Meanwhile, the East Java Regional Public Service Office said it is going to repair 1,5 kilometers of the road in Porong before the holiday traffic season comes.
The highway's section in Porong was a main point of traffic congestion even in regular season as mudflow keep inundating the road section.
