TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Between your working space having problems with the air circulation, or your housemates being endlessly noisy, one of the challenges that you might face during Work from Home (WFH) is maintaining high levels of concentration and productivity.
As such, to help you circumnavigate these problems, Chief of the Indonesian Ergonomics Association (HEI), Yassierli, has noted down a few tips.
First, to ensure that your working space does not suffer from any problems with the air circulation, you need to maintain your Air Conditioner’s (AC) temperature at around 22 to 25 degrees celsius.
"For example, by setting the air conditioner on a cool dry setting, using a dehumidifier, using a fan or opening the house window," Yassierli said in a press release received by Tempo, on Saturday, May 16, 2020.
In addition, you can also maintain your concentration and productivity by paying attention to the garments you usually wear while working.
“Use clothes that are not too thick and can absorb sweat, in order to facilitate the transfer of heat from the body to the environment," advised Yassierli, who is also a senior professor at the Bandung Institute of Technology.
On the other hand, you can also reduce the noise disturbance by stationing your working space in a room as far as you can from your family members, such as the bedroom or your study.
However, if these rooms are not available, an alternative is to install some simple soundproofing, such as carpets on the floor, which will also help to cancel out the noise.
“The use of carpets on the floor, curtains on windows and (installing) doors can help reduce unnecessary noise; which will help improve concentration while working," he said.
If all else fails, you can zone in on your work and focus yourself by plugging in your earphones or headset. In spite of this, you are advised to take breaks and be mindful of the duration. “Prolonged use can cause problems to your hearing,” Yassierli added.
