TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan hoped the public could be disciplined in complying with the Large-Scale Social Restriction or PSBB during the extended period for the next two weeks.
If the people are disciplined, Anies predicted that the capital city could exit from the restriction phase. “We hope this is the last phase.”
The governor was determined to extend the strict physical distancing period which will end on May 21 until June 4, 2020.
During yet another extension, Anies hoped all parties could contribute to contain the virus. The former education and culture minister appealed to the people to stay home. In the current PSBB period, only 60 percent of Jakartans abide by the rule.
He also demanded all to refrain from going mudik or mass exodus in this year’s Eid al-Fitr holiday or Lebaran. “Just stay in Jakarta. We want to succeed in containing this [pandemic],” he remarked. “Hopefully, this is the last PSBB. We don’t want it to be extended [again].”
Anies Baswedan explained that the extension of the PSBB period was decided by analyzing the data scientifically. He said that should the extension period work, the government could gradually open the capital city until the condition returns to normal. “Of course with a term of new normal.”
