PPNI: Eid Allowance for Private Sector Nurses Must be Fulfilled

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Nurses Association (PPNI) on Monday's press release reminds healthcare services in the private sector are required to fulfill the religious holiday allowance or Eid allowance (THR) for their nurses, especially amidst the urgency of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

“The nurses are at the frontline of the fight against COVID-19,” said PPNI chairperson Harif Fadhillah in the release Tempo obtained on Monday.

His public call comes after the fact that private-owned hospitals, clinics, and nursing high-education organizations that employ nurses would often fail to pay the government-regulated allowance even prior to the pandemic. 

He also asserts that the PPNI condemns employers that intentionally fail to pay healthcare workers their rightful holiday allowance. 

One of the reasons the PPNI chairperson acknowledged as the driving factor behind this unfortunate tendency is due to the unawareness of the nurses about their rights to receive the Eid holiday allowance. 

According to Manpower Ministry’s Regulation No.06/2016 that oversees THR payments, state-owned and private corporations must pay permanent and contract workers’ Eid allowances at a minimum of 7-days prior to the Eid al-Fitr celebrations, which is less than a week as this article is published.
