TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Assessment and Application of Technology Agency (BPPT) announced on Saturday that it plans to launch an early detection system based on artificial intelligence (AI) that is hoped to detect coronavirus (COVID-19) in a shorter amount of time.
“The artificial intelligence-based medical visual management is meant to process data from X-rays and CT-scans. It is hoped to be a piece of aid equipment to determine a diagnosis on suspected COVID-19 patients,” said BPPT head Hammam Riza to ANTARA on Saturday.
The system that acts as early detection for COVID-19 uses data inputs from X-rays and CT-scans from both positive and negative COVID-19 patients that use machine learning and deep learning. Upon launch, the detection devices will be distributed to hospitals on May 18.
This detection system is based on polymerase chain reaction (PCR) detection with results that can be obtained in 2-3 minutes that is hoped to slash the diagnosis time healthcare workers need to conduct.
BPPT is aiming to distribute it to eight hospitals, which among those include Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, the Koja General Hospital, and the Zainal Abidin Aceh General Hospital.
