TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The court hearing for the government regulation in lieu of law No.1/2020 overseeing state financial stability in mitigating Covid-19 Pandemic, known as Perpu Covid-19, is underway. Indonesian Supreme Court (MK) summonses President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to testify on next week’s hearing, Wednesday, May 20, at 10:00.
Besides the president, the House of Representatives will also attend the hearing to provide an explanation.
“The party, witness, and experts must attend to fulfill MK’s summonses,” said the summons letter on Friday, May 16.
The court will hear lawsuit matter filed by the anti-corruption community MAKI, Mega Bintang 1997 Foundation, LP3HI, KEMAKI, and LBH PEKA (legal aid institute) that demand the cancellation of Article 27 of Perpu Covid-19.
The bill was passed in the DPR plenary meeting on Tuesday, May 12. But the finalization process continues at MK.
Coordinator of MAKI Boyamin Saiman hopes the House and the President will fulfill the summons. “We need to hear an explanation on what Perpu Corona is and why should there be absolute immunity for the financial officials (at Article 27) in the regulation,” he said Saturday, May 16.
