TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - COVID-19 mitigation task force head Doni Monardo in Friday's virtual discussion revealed that nearly every Indonesian region that imposed the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) has successfully suppressed the spread of the coronavirus.

He said the PSBB-imposed regions successfully curbed the spread of the virus, which was evident in the declining rate of COVID-19-related deaths and the increasing number or recoveries.

The regions he refers to include Pekanbaru, West Sumatera, Jakarta, West Java, East Java (partially), Banjarmasin, Palangkaraya, Gorontalo, and Makassar.

Previously on Tuesday, May 12, after a meeting with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Doni said that the Bali provincial administration should be appreciated for its attempt to use local wisdom in its efforts to break the chain of transmission as the region managed to suppress the number of cases without imposing the PSBB.

“As it turns out, the keys are discipline and people’s conformity towards the national health protocols,” said Doni Monardo on Friday.

The COVID-19 task force leader said a full evaluation will be conducted on areas that impose and do not impose the PSBB safety protocols.
