TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Companies usually grant Eid allowance or THR ahead of Eid al-Fitr, which is expected to fall on May 24, 2020. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, some firms may refrain from paying it, and some may pay it less or in installment.
This certainly causes worry for some people. Hence, managing holiday allowance is necessary as to not letting your financial condition to a minus state.
Financial Planner Prita Ghozie shares tips on how to manage Eid or Lebaran allowance. First, she suggests people allocate the funds for Zakat al-Fitr, an obligatory alm paid before Eid Al-Fitr, and fidyah if having obstacles to perform fasting.
After carrying out the mandatory, the funds can be then used for the needs during Eid, such as foods that require extra costs.
“The tradition of giving out Eid hampers is no longer a must, so don’t feel guilty if we cannot do that. We are all in the same condition,” said Prita in an Instagram Live of Mother & Baby account on Thursday, May 14.
Prita further reminded all to manage the funds based on their respective posts, including emergency funds. Although there is an ideal figure that must be met, the funds must be recalculated for adjustment.
“However, during this pandemic, it is better to allocate emergency funds, rather than investment,” Prita added.
She further recommends people to save Eid allowance for emergency funds until the condition improves. As for people having a risky loan, they are advised to make repayment.
“Then try to ask yourself again, should you focus on the needs of Lebaran or its lifestyle? If you use up emergency funds from Eid allowance for just a lifestyle, please rethink about it,” Prita suggested.
