TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Covid-19 Task Force chairman, Doni Monardo, admitted that young people make up the most of Covid-19 positive cases in the country. However, he said that the mortality rate among young patients is not high.
"It is true that many are positive, but the death rate is small at 15 percent," Doni told Tempo, Tuesday, May 12.
Meanwhile, the death rate among people above 46 years old is the highest at 85 percent.
According to the website https://covid19.go.id/, Indonesia has 14,265 confirmed cases with 991 deaths. Based on the age group, 47.8 percent of them are people between the age of 18 and 45 years old. People between the age of 46 and 59 years and people above 69 years old account for 46.6 percent of the cases.
Under these bases, Doni said, the government is allowing people under 45 years to go back to work. However, those who are positive must self-quarantine.
Doni denied reports that the go-back-to-work plan is an implementation of herd immunity.
Young men and women who are allowed to work are those engaged in the fields of health, food and beverage, communication and information technology, finance, logistics, hospitality, construction, strategic industries, basic services, public utilities and industries determined as vital objects national and certain objects; as well as daily necessities.
