TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Muhammadiyah’s Tarjih and Tajdid Assembly (MTT) highly recommends Muslims to conduct the upcoming mass Eid prayers at home if COVID-19 pandemic shows no signs of declining.
“Yes, Muhammadiyah’s MTT division for fatwa and demand development has decided so,” said a member of the division, Wawan Gunawan Abdul Wahid in a text message to Tempo on Tuesday, May 12.
Prior to this, Religious Affairs Minister Fachrul Razi issued a circular which is basically guidance for Muslims upon welcoming Ramadan amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Many of the aspects do not allow public gatherings for the annual traditions during the holy month of Ramadan.
One of the many aspects overseen by the guidance is to not hold mass Eid prayers, banning public celebratory Takbiran (recitation of Allah is great) and limiting them to Mosque confinements, and calling for social gathering traditions to be done virtually.
