TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bekasi Mayor Rahmat Effendi announced on Tuesday that two sellers at a traditional market were tested positive for COVID-19 after the local government conducted a mass coronavirus test on Sunday, May 10.
“We will surely continue to trace people made contact with the positive COVID-19 patients. They are asymptomatic (OTG),” said Rahmat Effendi on Tuesday, May 12.
The sense of emergency to enact contact tracing on those who interacted with the traders is due to the fact that the Wisma Asri traditional market, in its nature, has a high interaction rate between traders and customers.
“This will be more dangerous because of the market’s role in fulfilling people’s daily needs,” said the mayor.
The two traders are known to be residents of Bekasi Regency and Bogor Regency. Thus, urging the Bekasi Administration to coordinate its efforts to break the chain of coronavirus transmission with both local government officials.
The Bekasi Mayor said that his administration will impose a new rule on traditional markets operating amidst the large-scale social restriction (PSBB). They plan to better monitor market visitors by imposing a single door for entrances and exits.
