TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the COVID-19 task force Doni Monardo on Tuesday announced that the large-scale social restriction (PSBB) would only be relaxed for regions that have managed to overcome COVID-19 cases or have flattened the curve.
“Regions will not be permitted to loosen its social restriction protocol if their curve has not been flattened,” said Doni Monardo on Tuesday, May 12.
Relaxing the physical restrictions will also highly depend on the public’s preparedness and the authorities will not enforce it if society is deemed unprepared.
“It’s about timing, we’ll see the people’s discipline in each region that is qualified to have its restrictions relaxed. We will surely not take the risk for regions that lack the discipline, which undermines the task force’s decision making and scenarios,” said Doni Monardo.
Other aspects are taken into consideration depending on which regions need the restrictions relaxed. The relaxation of the restriction would also heavily depend on the coordination among regional administrations and the central government.
“This is important. We don’t want a scenario where a PSBB is loosened but only to have it rejected,” said the COVID-19 task force head. “The coordination between the central government and regional administration is our main priority.”
