TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Members of the Jakarta Legislative Council's (DRPD Jakarta) Commission C overseeing finance held a hearing with region-owned enterprises (BUMD) discussing budget reallocations for the 2020 budget plans that were or would possibly not be spent. The unused spending will be allocated to the handling of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Commission C member S. Andyka said Monday that the “budget plans will be diverted to the handling of COVID-19 in Jakarta.”
According to Andyka, the budget reallocation will be allowed to be included in the city’s unexpected spendings that do not exceed Rp 1 trillion for the handling of the pandemic.
One of the budget cuts will be sourced from the scrapped Formula E race that was initially scheduled to be held in the coming months.
“Rp207 billion from the Formula E budget will be used for the handling of COVID-19. Budgets from the water distribution body (PDAM) will also be diverted,” said Andyka.
The Jakarta Legislative Council will also ask the Jakarta Administration to provide the BUMDs with dividend funds up to Rp750 billion that will later be used for the Jakarta Kartu Pintar, a subsidy program for impoverished school students.
