KAI Set to Open Special Trips on Tuesday amid Mudik Ban

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-run railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) was set to transport passengers on special or non-homecoming trips on Tuesday, May 12, 2020. These extraordinary trips will be valid until the end of the prohibition on mass exodus or mudik ban on May 31, 2020.
“We will provide six special trips for people excluded in the government regulation on the implementation of Covid-19 protocol,” said KAI Vice President of Public Relations, Joni Martinus, on Monday, May 11.
Joni elaborated that the train service was in line with the issuance of a circular letter by the Covid-19 mitigation task force No. 4/2020, in which noting that people who are permitted to take a special trip are those working in Covid-19 handling, in sectors of defense and security, health, basic needs, and vital economy.
People who are having an emergency trip or having a family member die or severely ill, as well as those migrant workers from abroad willing to return home, are also allowed to board a train.
For the special trips, PT KAI provides three routes: Gambir - Surabaya Pasarturi - Gambir (north route), Gambir - Surabaya Pasarturi - Gambir (south route), and Bandung - Surabaya Pasarturi - Bandung. The ticket price for executive class ranges from Rp630,000 to Rp750,000, and for economic class from Rp400,000 to Rp450,000.
The ticket sales will be opened starting Monday, May 11 at the departure station. Would-be passengers must complete the requirements, such as having a letter on the negative result of Covid-19, ID Card or other valid identification, and getting approval or verification from the Covid-19 mitigation post at the station.
