Police Foil 44 Travel Fleets Attempting Mudik in a Day

11 May 2020 08:06 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaOn the sixteenth day of the 2020 Ketupat Jaya operation, Jakarta Metro Police’s Traffic Directorate cracked down a total of 44 illegal travel vehicles smuggling people to join mass exodus or locally known as mudik amid the restriction issued by the government.

“On Saturday, May 9, 44 travel fleets are stopped as they are found to carry homecomers,” said the police’s traffic director Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo in a written statement on Sunday, May 10.

The police officers then secured the vehicles, and the driver was ticketed, while the passengers were asked to return to their homes in Jakarta Greater Area or Jabodetabek.

Sambodo explained the ticket was based on Article 308 of Law No. 22/2009 on traffic and land transportation.

According to him, the illegal travel agents offered their services through social media and agents with varying tariffs from Rp300,000 to Rp500,000 to many destinations in Java island.

Other than illegal travel agents, the traffic police discovered several trucks carrying people for mudik outside Jabodetabek and 707 private vehicles attempting to join mudik. They were not given tickets but only ordered to return back.
