TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former chief of the National Defense Forces (TNI) General (ret) Djoko Santoso died at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital in Jakarta on Sunday morning.
Chief of the Indonesian Army's Information Service Colonel Nefra Firdaus confirmed the death of Djoko Santoso who was also former Army Chief of Staff.
The cause of his death is still unknown. However, his health was getting worse after undergoing a surgery for brain bleed at the Army Hospital a few days ago.
Djoko Santoso was TNI chief for the 2007-2010 period. He turned to politics by becoming a member of the board of patrons of the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party led by Prabowo Subianto.
Djoko Santoso became chief of campaign team of Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno pair in the 2019 presidential election.
