TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Maritime and Fisheries Minister Edhy Prabowo has proceeded with his plan to open the export of lobster hatchlings through the issuance of the Maritime and Fisheries Minister's Regulation No. 12/2020 on the management of lobsters, crabs, and small crabs in Indonesian territory, which was prohibited by his predecessor, Susi Pudjiastuti.
“As this regulation takes effect, the Maritime and Fisheries Minister's Regulation No. 56/2016 banning the catch and export of lobsters (Panulirus spp.), crabs (Scylla spp.), and small crabs or rajungan (Portunus spp.) is revoked and no longer valid,” reads Article 16 of the policy.
Under the provision, the export of lobster seeds is allowed on conditions and their price floor from fishermen will be determined by the ministry’s directorate general overseeing fisheries. The export quota and the catch locations will also be set every year.
The policy also mandates that every export of lobster hatchlings is subject to export duty or non-tax state revenue per each seed with the rate determined by the Finance Ministry.
As a minister, Susi Pudjiastuti banned exports of lobster seeds. She opined such exploitation through extraction must be abandoned, asserting that sustainability must be the basis of the country’s natural resources industry.
