TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry is finalizing a derivative regulation of the Ministerial Decree No. 25/2020 concerning the ban on annual mass exodus or locally known mudik. The policy will allow people to take business trips to areas enforcing the Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB) and red zones.
“The discussion is still afoot,” said the ministry’s spokesperson Adita Irawati via a text message to Tempo on Tuesday, May 5.
She explained that they are coordinating the rule with the COVID-19 mitigation task force. Yet she stopped short of detailing the deadline for its issuance.
The ministry initially planned to announce the rules today in a press conference but it was canceled.
Earlier, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said he would exempt people with business affairs to have commercial flights in PSBB areas or red zones amid the Covid-19 pandemic, as long as the aim is not to go mudik.
However, Budi demanded health protocols be carried out strictly if the exemption flights operate, and its mechanism to be managed by the Covid-19 mitigation task force.
Previously, the government had suspended the operation of all commercial passenger flights in Covid-19 red zones in an effort to curb the virus spread.
