TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The North Jakarta environmental agency has reportedly collected 26 kilograms-worth of the infectious waste left from the handling of COVID-19 pandemic throughout April. The waste consists of face masks, rubber gloves, and disposable hazmat suits.
“The trashes were from medical activities that use masks, gloves, and hazmat suits. We collected them in sub-districts and will later end up at the dump at Kemayoran, TPS Dakota,” said the agency’s head of hygiene Risad Saristian on Tuesday.
According to Risad, the workers responsible for collecting these hazardous items are equipped with complete personal protection gears (APD) as the trashes are categorized as B3 waste (dangerous and poisonous).
“There is a maximum of five people on the team. The trash is placed inside a specially-yellow colored bag,” said Risad. The team will then hand it over to a dedicated third-party team from PT Wastec International that was appointed by the Jakarta Health Agency.
